Peter Hemings was trained, apparently for seven years, by his brother James to provide Monticello with the French cooking learned in France during period that Jefferson was the U.S. Minister there. Jefferson's farm book distribution list indicates he had a slave wife and five children though we are not certain as to who the wife or children were.
