| Beverly Hemings was born to Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson in year 1798 and at age 22 in 1820 was apparently allowed by Jefferson to leave Monticello as a White man. According to Madison, he moved to Washington City and married a White woman; and, we assume fathered children, likely at least one of the Hemings young men who served in Union forces during the Civil War. |
