| Aunt Nancy was a well-educated and experienced social worker who actively engaged her mind in addressing questions posed by others such as relatives in and out of state; illustrated by the following notes she compiled on or about March 25, 1991. As a pioneer in developing the African Heritage Room at the University of Pittsburgh, she was careful to remember and understand that her life's journey included Africa and Africans in the family tree. She both inquired and noted many years of information given by her educated and literate mother Mary Hemings Butler and father Thomas Findlay Lee.
