| J.D. Lowry reportedly was the wealthiest man in Lowry, but all of his offspring, if he sired any, were via women other than his wife. And, apparently the wife of Joseph Fuqua also did not bear any children and her husband likewise may also have fathered children by non-White women. Both families are illustrative of heritage and legacy of the ante-bellum south wherein the very widespread existence of concubines and polygamy bred at least two generations that would ultimately join the Union Army that ended chattel slavery.
