Mary Lee Brady, Ph.D.

| | Amy Martin, born abt. 1800 was either coerced or forced to be a breeder of many slave offspring, some of which obviously did not survive long enough to be included in the 1880 census. But, we can imagine her life to have been useful in the generation of over 700 young men for the Union Army and Navy defeat and destruction of the hated institution of chattel slavery. Without her there would have been no victory and very little liberty. | Household: Name | Relation | Marital Status | Gender | Race | Age | Birthplace | Occupation | Father's Birthplace | Mother's Birthplace | Sam MARTIN | Self | M | Male | MU | 50 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Peggy MARTIN | Wife | M | Female | B | 46 | VA | Keeping House | VA | VA | Sam MARTIN | Son | S | Male | B | 18 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Lucy MARTIN | Dau | S | Female | B | 22 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Walter MARTIN | Son | S | Male | B | 16 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Henry MARTIN | Son | S | Male | B | 14 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Amy MARTIN | Dau | S | Female | B | 12 | VA | Farm Hand | VA | VA | Green MARTIN | Son | S | Male | B | 1 | VA | | VA | VA | Wesley MARTIN | Son | S | Male | B | 7 | VA | | VA | VA | Effie MARTIN | Dau | S | Female | B | 3 | VA | | VA | VA | Amy MARTIN | Mother | D | Female | B | 80 | VA | None | VA | VA |
