| Sally Ann Atkins, if born in year 1836 may have been fathered by Henry Adkins when he was approximately 16 years age, and her mother Nancy a similar age. The realties of chattel slavery in the 18th and 19th century was that fertile slaves were likely to breed early and often until death or sale made them part from people and places of breeding. Another possibility is that daughter Sally may have been a niece to Evelyn Hill, and both leased or sold to a tobacco plantation owner in Franklin or Pittsylvania Counties of Virginia. The interactions and transactions between and among slave owners and users was very deep and detailed including sexual access by males to females.
