The earliest English settlers to America were adventurers inspired by men like Francis Drake. There were few, if any, men with English wives on their adventures or in the settlements. As Englishmen they took the land and women from the Natives they encountered. 

The earliest settlers were descended from adventurous soldiers and sailors of the crown.  As adventurers they viewed sexual conquests as a meaningful privilege of their powers.  The earliest White women came indentured or as convicts and soon birthed offspring for property owners, including those fathered by African heritage men.
