Essex Finney born about 1843 is believed by us to have been the offspring of Norman Finney and Easter Frog.

The one-room school in Macon, Virginia where Essex Finney attended elementary school. His grandmother, Fannie Finney, taught here until 1947. Then her daughter, Novella Finney Ambrose (shown on the right), taught here until 1957. Pine Hill School

Fannie Lee Clark, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, June 18, 1998. She was born in Franklin to the late John G. and Josephine Brown Finney. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Clark. Survivors include two nieces, Billie Jean (Ralph) Randolph, Cuba, Ala. and Earlene Jeffries, Worthington, Ohio; great nieces, Katrina D. Jeffries, New York, Kelly Clark, Washington, D.C., Lisa Owens, Lanham, Md.; great nephews, Archie Jeffries Jr., Columbus, Ohio, and Rodney D. Myrick, San Antonio, Texas; very special friends, Louise and James Gunter, Rosa Thomas, all of Roanoke; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Morning Star Baptist Church. Rev. Lee A. Lewis will officiate and the interment will follow in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
